Intimacy and style beneath the desert sun

There’s something uniquely special about a wedding in The Agafay Desert. That raw, magnetic blend of wildness, warmth, and beauty. The intimacy of it; the emptiness. Lantern-light and fire beneath the inky desert sky.

Every time I visit Morocco, I fall in love with something new. And this editorial in Agafay was an experience I’ll never forget.

Because it was more than just a pretty backdrop. It was filled with energy, life, and meaning. The styling, the clothes, the artistry of the details…it was authentically Moroccan, modern, stylish, and considered all at once.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding in The Agafay Desert, come take a look. This is a wedding you’ll experience, live in, and feel.

Where to stay for your wedding in The Agafay Desert

Just half an hour south of Marrakech is the stunning, rocky, almost-lunar landscape of The Agafay Desert.

Pure-white dunes tumble into the distance. There’s canyons, camels, and cacti; flawless light, and remarkably reliable weather! And glimmering on the horizon, the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains.

And nestled in this expanse of unforgiving beauty, you’ll find the welcoming luxury of BE Agafay Desert Camp.

The cosy yurts are exceptionally comfortable, in an “I can’t believe we’re in the middle of the desert!” kinda way.

There’s camel rides, spa treatments, and a pool to soak off the heat of the day. And as you step onto your balcony, you’ll find your very own private hot tub! (This is my reaction to it! I COULD NOT keep my cool!)

If you’re having your wedding in The Agafay Desert, look no further. This is the place to stay.

The Zaffa, The Amaria, and a blanket of Kilim

The ceremony began with the Zaffa- a high-energy procession representing a transition into married life.

Fairuza and Aymane made their entrance, surrounded by Neggafates (professional attendants) in traditional Moroccan dress. The ornate golden urn was filled with incense; there was music, and singing, and a cascade of drums.

And as the musicians gathered round in their scarlet djellaba, Fairuza took her seat on the Amaria, and was carried across to the ceremony.

And oh my goodness, that dress!

Fairuza wore a spectacular caftan– or takchita- intricately embroidered in silver and gold. And to complete the look, elegantly natural makeup, and a golden crown on Hollywood waves.

The drums faded away as The Zaffa came to an end. Fairuza found the ground, and it was time for the ceremony.

An intimate wedding ceremony in The Agafay Desert

Held hands and vows on a blanket of Kilim; laughter and drums in the desert sun.

When the ceremony had finished, F&A took their seats on their exquisite silk Amarias. And with a gentle kiss on Fairuza’s forehead, they were lifted off the rugs, and carried away to their reception.

An outfit change, a camel, and a wall of florals

A Moroccan wedding is not a one-dress, one-moment event. It’s a multi-day experience with henna parties, welcome parties, epic entrances, and decadent meals.

And as a couple, it gives you this open invitation to go all-out with your outfit choices! Have a traditional caftan for your ceremony, and an elegant white dress for your photos. Get changed for your drinks reception, and get changed again for dinner!

It’s not ‘expected’, and there’s no pressure to spend your day in the dressing room. But if you’re struggling to choose just one outfit, why not have fun choosing lots?!

F&A looked incredible in their second- more modern- looks of the day. Aymane in a suave black suit; Fairuza in a stunning gown from Liz Martinez

We had photos in the sunshine, backdropped by a gorgeous wall of roses. They laughed, they hugged, they visited the camel!

And with the sun beginning to set behind the dunes, it was time for their reception.

Tablescape inspiration for your wedding in The Agafay Desert

The evening meal was a thing of exquisite beauty. Musicians in teal robes welcomed us to the table, laid out in the settling dusk.

Spectacular floral arrangements of roses and dahlias spilled from the centre of the tablescape. The stationery was rustic and tactile; the linen was intricately textured.

And with creams and whites as the base, the gold accents in the tableware added a uniquely Moroccan, modern feel to the whole aesthetic.

Fairuza changed into an ethereal dress, and danced with Aymane in the setting sun. We gathered around that breathtaking tablescape; we ate and drank, and watched the firedancers juggle in the darkness.

And as the desert sky filled with stars, we followed the glowing lanterns, and found our way back home.

A wedding in The Agafay Desert is an experience…

It’s being lifted on a golden chair, carried by guests, and welcomed with drums. It’s vows in the desert, kisses at sunset, and lantern-lit speeches beneath the stars.

And it’s being part of something bigger. A culture- stretching a thousand miles, and thousands of years.

It’s tradition, and intimacy, and beauty with depth. And as an Agafay Desert wedding photographer, that’s the kind of story I love to tell.

The desert feels like home to my soul. It slows me down, opens me up, and reminds me why I photograph the way I do.

If you’re drawn to my work, I’d be so excited to hear from you. Get in touch today for a chat and let’s see if we’re a good fit.
