Unapologetically punk. A deeply-human wedding in Bratislava

Monochrome styling, and three bridal looks. Joy and laughter; punk energy, and rebellious hearts. This is V&O’s wedding in Bratislava.

Black and white, with a flash of Chevy red.

Held hands in the backseat of a Chevy Chevelle. The grandfather singing and shouting; demanding music, and joy, and laughing from his chair. Kisses, and games, and broken plates; energy and style, and rebellious hearts. This was V&O’s wedding in Bratislava Kultumara.

I honestly can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this day. We had monochrome styling, shades of grey, and flashes of red. It was wild, and authentic, and incredibly moving.

The happiness was infectious; the people were warm. And the setting: an industrial-chic hideaway in the heart of Bratislava.

If you’re planning a wedding in Bratislava, come take a look. Viera and Oliver’s wedding is a goldmine of punk-inspired style.

A slow morning in Old Town

Our day began in V&O’s home in Bratislava’s Old Town.

And let me tell you, it’s such an amazing experience spending your wedding morning together. Getting ready as a couple; with your own space, your own rituals, your own things.

V&O’s cats were there too to keep us company. Their beloved “tripods”, with six legs between them (and an adorable bowtie for Oliver’s furry little double!)

Vierka looked incredible in her transformable dress by Veronika Kostková. The dress had three different looks, changing with each phase of the day. Version one for the ceremony: a punk-short skirt and flowing lace train, with a stylish high neck, and illusion mesh sleeves.

And I loved how V&O’s outfits were contrasting and cohesive all at once. Her white dress and black sunnies; his all-black suit and white bowtie.

Like yin and yang; like two worlds combined.

Wedding photography from the Bratislava skyline

Into the lift, and down the stairs. Out into the sunshine, and into a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle.

We took a drive through town. And a little while later, we were stepping out onto a rooftop overlooking the city.

The views were spectacular; the light was raw, like nature’s flash. The skyline of Bratislava glowed in the sunshine below us. They kissed on the rooftop, and soaked in the views.

And with the ceremony calling, they jumped back in the Chevy. And headed to their wedding in Bratislava Kultumara.

Kultumara wedding venue in Bratislava

Kulturama is an awesome place to get married.

Your day flows effortlessly from space to space. There’s black metal beams, clean white walls, and a smooth concrete floor. And above the main space, a canopy of fairylights twinkle overhead.

It’s industrial, stylish, and achingly cool. And as a couple, it gives you a chic blank slate for your styling.

If you’re looking for a modern wedding venue in Bratislava, you’ve found your place.

Whole hearts, and shattered plates

Viera and Oliver got married in the mezzanine space of Kultumara. Hidden away upstairs- their friends and family greeting them, hugging them, gathering around them.

And the ceremony was wonderful. There were tears, held hands, and exchanged rings. They signed, and kissed, and made it official. And after a warm, joyful receiving line with their guests, we headed outside into the sunshine.

V&O had a shot, and broke the plate to a huge round of applause.

And together, they swept up the pieces. An age-old Slovakian tradition, and their first act of teamwork as husband and wife.

Reception styling for your punk wedding in Bratislava

The reception styling was immaculate. Dramatic, and monochrome; black and white, with shades of grey.

The seating plan, laid out like dominos. Eucalyptus and cow parsley spilled from the tables, and pure-white candles flickered from the centre.

The room erupted into cheers as Oliver carried Viera to her chair!

Viera removed her long skirt, for a more relaxed, second look of the day. And after some heartfelt, deeply emotional speeches, it was time for us to feast.

And oh my, the food was exceptional. I told them I’d be happy with just sides (I’m vegetarian, so I don’t like to be difficult!) But the manager insisted on preparing a full vegetarian meal, just for me.

And I think this might be my favourite thing about Kulturama. The staff bend over backwards to help you; nothing’s a problem, or too much trouble. And as aesthetically epic as the venue is, it somehow feels like home.

A third look, a party, and pegs

Food demolished, bottles empty, plates cleared.

Viera removed the lace layer of her dress- leaving only the short slip skirt, for her third look of the day. And with our bellies full, and the bride ready for dancing, it was time for the party!

We played a great game, where we all secretly pinned clothes-pegs onto each other’s clothes! It was so funny, and so much fun. And I was hotly competing with Viera’s brother for the win!

They had a whole roasted pig, and a buttercream cake overflowing with berries.

There were shots, beers, and cocktails; a conga line, and the macarena. It was joyful, and intimate, wonderfully unravelled. Laid-back, unserious, and silly. And just the best way to end the very best kind of day.

It’s all about connection

I first met V&O by chance at a wine harvest in Slovakia. We drifted out of touch, and our paths crossed again a few years later. Again by chance, through mutual friends.

I invited them on a styled shoot. And when they started planning their wedding, they asked me to be their photographer.

And as your wedding photographer, that’s how I want you to feel. Like we’re old friends, finding each other again.

Because for me, that connection is at the heart of everything I do.

Inviting you to be vulnerable, wild, and soft. Telling your story as it was, and giving you photos of who you truly are
